Tashkent, literal meaning “Stone City”, is the capital of Uzbekistan. It is the biggest and one of the oldest cities in Central Asia with an incredible 2200 year old history. It is also the most cosmopolitan city in Uzbekistan, noted for its tree-lined streets, numerous fountains and pleasant parks.

Since 1991, the city has changed economically, culturally, and architecturally. New development has superseded or replaced icons of the Soviet era. In 2007, Tashkent was named the “cultural capital of the Islamic world” as the city has numerous historic mosques and significant Islamic sites, including the Isamic University.

Souvenir Shopping

Tashkent has the best places to buy gifts, crafts and souvenirs. There are plenty of places where you can shop for souvenirs and gifts within the city. If you want to find something unique or love to haggle for good deal goods, Abulkasim Madrassah and Chorsu Bazaar are the best places to visit.

Chorsu Bazaar

The famous Chorsu Bazaar is located near the Kukeldash Madrassa. This huge open air bazaar is the center of the old town of Tashkent. Everything imaginable is for sale here at bargain prices.

Malls & Shopping Centers

Tashkent has many shopping centres. From MegaPlanet to Kontinent, Tashkent to Poytaxt, they are scattered across the city, and stock everything from footwear to furnishing and clothes to caviar.

Central Department Store

It is located at the very heart of Tashkent and comprises a total of three floors. In the Central Department Store you will find a good selection of handicraft items at the souvenirs department. The second floor of the Central Department Store offers clothes and footwear, bedding, pillows, blankets and more.

Kontinent

– 7 km / 4.3 miles

It is one of the biggest Department Stores in Tashkent. Located just next to the Grand Mir Hotel, it is a typical shopping mall in Tashkent consisting of supermarket with wide range of groceries on basement floor, heaps of fashion and brand shops on first floor and fast food section on the top floor.

Monuments and Memorials

Tashkent’s history goes back to 2200 years, so there are many historic places in the city.

Independence Square

The largest square in Tashkent is more like a large park than a square. With several monuments and fountains, surrounded by impressive public buildings and filled with trees and flower beds, the Independence Square in Tashkent is a showcase of modern Uzbekistan.

Lamenting Mother Memorial

– 1 km / 0.6 miles

This memorial’s complex was recently reconstructed. Today, the monumental complex houses the Lamenting Mother Monument which was erected in honour of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the sake of peace and salvation of innocent people.

Anhor Lokomotiv

Anhor Lokomotiv is an amusement park located in Tashkent. It is covering an area of 8 hectares and is divided into multiple areas such as children’s zone, family zone, extreme zone etc. Visitors are always pleasantly surprised to find a system of ponds and a waterfall.

Most of Taskent’s financial activities revolve around the city’s business district.

International Business Centre

IBC is a popular destination for business in Tashkent. It is a venue which regularly hosts several high profile conferences which involves leading companies from all over the globe. UzExpoCentre

Uzexpocentre is one of the important business attractions of Tashkent. Set up in the year of 1992, it is a leading trade centre of Uzbekistan. The exhibition centre has emerged as a destination of choice for fostering and promoting trade relations between Uzbekistan and other countries and thereby bringing in foreign investment. The expo centre boasts of superior, high-tech facilities and has firmly established itself as a world-class exhibition center. It is only a few minutes’ drive from our hotel.
